I almost made a complete fool of myself while watching this film. That is, I felt the overwhelming desire to kneel before the screen and spout the words, “Oh, Thor mighty god of thunder!” Hahaha!

Lucky for me, I subdued the urge and sat back and enjoyed the film in silence.

Thor provided me with just the escape I needed. I got caught up in the action and special effects. The film was reminiscent of the 1980s Flash Gordon movie. (I was swept away by this film as well.)

Go see this movie in the theater today. If not, take it home as your 1^st DVD pick.

Hanna

The film Hanna was a little odd. At first there was no real plot. The film appeared to be another shoot'em up film. It was like Keith David was in my head saying, “I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, we've got us another crazy [little girl] here with a gun.”

Then, the film feigned significance. Hanna appeared to unveil a grand conspiracy.

Towards the end of the film, however, I think the writers forgot the plot. I could not tell where it was all going. I left the theater thinking “what now?”

I know what now…I suggest that you do not go see Hanna in the theater. Instead, take it home as your 3^rd DVD pick.

35 Rhums

I really dislike films like 35 Rhums (35 Shots of Rum). These films introduce you to a character, show you a segment of the character’s life, and allow you bond with the character. Just when you are a step away from feeling a sense of kinship, the movie ends abruptly.

You are left sitting in your chair wondering what happens next.

If you don’t mind being ripped away from characters or having your emotions toyed with, make 35 Shots of Rum your 1^st DVD pick.

If you are looking for a love story to see with your significant other, The Adjustment Bureau is a great choice. Do not, however, allow yourself to think the film is all about love. There is a surprise. It’s a motivational film. It is about having the courage to create a path for yourself.

This is one the best military films I’ve seen in a long time. Notwithstanding, the enemy was from outer space.

The fact that the enemy was extraterrestrial was immaterial to the film. This film was about the comradely between soldiers and the snippets of their lives. It seemed very real. Note though, there are a few scenes where “they” will try to evoke some emotional responses from the audience, but do not give in!!!!!!!!!

That being said, go see this movie in the theater. If you cannot, take it home as your 1^st DVD pick.

Unknown was a good film; however, I could not help thinking that I have seen this film before. Oh, yeah! I got it! If you change the time to the future, change the planet to Mars, and make the main actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, you have the movie Total Recall.

Although the film is not as action packed as Total Recall, there is more than enough intrigue and drama to keep you entertained. Therefore, there is no need for you to despair.

Go see this movie in the theater or take it home as your 1st DVD pick.

MI-5 must be the most intelligent show on television! I keep getting pulled into this drama every time I watch an episode. Espionage, undercover agents, and Her Majesty's secret service have come together to create a formidable addiction.

You have to be a really open minded person to watch Irréversible. It deals with sadomasochism, (conversations on) incest, and rape. (The rape scene seems to last for 45 minutes.)

Do not assume you will have time to brace yourself for the uneasy parts. The film jumps right into the action! (I hope it is OK to say action.)

I do not think I was the intended audience for this film. In fact, I should have saved myself some time and taken heed to the film’s title, Anatomy of Hell (translation).

If there was some artistic value in the film I think I missed it. It just seemed like a highbudget adult film (pornography).

If you are inclined to watch such films, take Anatomie de L'Enfer home as your 3rd DVD pick.

The Green Hornet 3D

I do not know what made me watch this film; I did not know what I expected to see. I guess I wanted to see an action film. I guess I wanted to see Bruce Lee again.

As I sat in my seat watching this film I felt like getting up and walking out. First, I think I am over Seth Rogen’s acting style and movies. Second, I realized that I hated watching the Green Hornet television show. I only wanted to watch the parts with Bruce lee. I had to tolerate 94% of the show focusing on the other guy (the Hornet) just to see the remaining 6% which contained Bruce lee. The whole show, like the movie, was a grand disappointment.

That being said, I don’t recommend that you see this movie in the theater. In fact, leave this movie on the shelf!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

Just the nap I needed! That’s right, I saw another installment of the Harry Potter franchise and it put me to sleep as usual. I walked into the theater filled excitement and 15 minutes later I blacked out. (The first 15 minutes are usually engaging; I am drawn in by the technological spender that is Harry Potter.)

After my 40 minute nap, I awoke only to realize that I did not missed much at all!

Needless to say, I do not recommend watching this film or another Harry Potter film in the theater. Do, however, take it home as your 1^st DVD pick!

Shottas

Just when I thought I couldn’t watch another “gangster” film, Shottas took me by surprise.

It’s central American environment and use of subtitles made this gangster tale fresh; it was educational. I had no idea that Kingston, Jamaica was a hotbed of violence.

This was an excellent movie; I recommend you make it your 3^rd DVD pick.

At the risk of saying something inflammatory, Dwayne Johnson was a beast in this film. His character was a sociopath that exerted an animal/predatory like energy. (I sat in my seat wondering how Mr. Johnson was able to accomplish such a transformation.)

I wish I could say that this was an excellent film, but I cannot. The other characters, with the exception of that played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, let me down!

As a result, I suggest that you forego seeing this film in the theater; take it home as your 2^nd DVD pick.

Mr. Johnson was outstanding!!!!!!!!!

I am so glad that Kevin Hart was not another Richard Pryor/Eddie Murphy imitator. Although he does present a uniquely African American style of comedy, I did not feel as though I was watching another "ghetto" comedy. His comedic style was fresh; I laughed the whole time the DVD was on.

This film was lousy. That is, it started out ok, but it quickly went down hill once the film’s focus shifted away from the main characters Donald Faison and Eric Balfour.

It was a bit like War of the Worlds and Independence day. However, it’s ending was less than stellar.

Shang Cineplex, Manila: I’m not sure if you should trust my review of the movie R.E.D. I was so excited about the movie because a nice amount of the film was shot on the Gulf Coast. The movie (appeared) to be filmed in New Orleans, Mobile, and Pensacola. It was like Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Mary-Louise Parker shinned a huge light on an area many people only know for its disasters (Katrina & BP Oil spill).

I felt revitalized! Plus, I had the most awesome movie partner ever!

If the movie trailer looks interesting, go see this movie in the theater today. If not, view it as a DVD while taking your trip to the Gulf Coast.

Legend of the Guardians:The Owls of Ga'Hoole

SM City Cinema, Davao: Legend of the Guardians was the worst movie ever! It was another one of those feel good films where the main character (an owl) believes in himself and overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds. This motivational tale is great for children and those needing a bit of inspiration.

However, the film trounces on the virtues of patience and meticulous planning. (These admirable attributes were the handy tools of the owl’s adversary.) The audience was asked to believe that these virtues should give way to raw courage.

I was NOT buying into that story!!!!!

Nice! The movie Takers began a little clunky, but it improved as it progressed. The first part of the film, it seemed, was dedicated to delivering on the promise of featuring T.I.

Some films trick patrons into theaters by showing big name artists in its movie trailers, but the artists are given small parts in the actual film. That was not the case with Takers. (There was no bait-and-switch.) T.I. was prominently featured in this film.

There was LOTS of action, but the death scenes were not glorified.

The Expendables

We all know (or should know) that the big three – Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Arnold Schwarzenegger – set the modern standard for action films. And very few films, since the 80s, have come close to matching or exceeding those films in terms of intensity (i.e., explosions, shootings, and car chases). Today, one of the big three has come back and set a new standard!

Stallone and his gang did more shooting and killing than I’ve seen in a LONG time! This movie was Mantastic!!!!! The whole time I was in the theater, I kept hearing the automated voice from the movie Demolition Man (a Sylvester Stallone film) in my head …Murder, Death, Kill!!!

Needless to say, I am going to see this movie again; I suggest that you go see this movie in the theater today. If not, take it home as your 1st DVD pick.

I think this film was supposed to be a comedy, but I could not help taking it seriously. Perhaps, I was expecting the wrong character to bring the levity to the film. That is, I was expecting Ashton Kutcher to be the funny man in the film when I should have kept my eye on Katherine Heigl. Katherine Heigl was the funny character and Kutcher and Selleck portrayed the serious characters. (This character arrangement threw me off a bit.)

Outside of that, the film was good. My only criticism is that there was not enough Catherine O'Hara! She is funny and she needed a little more camera time.

Go see this film in the theater. If not, take Killers home as your 2nd DVD pick.

It was not a simple copy of the old team from the 80s television show. This team is a superset of the original. In fact, it should be called A-Team++. (All of you computer scientist out there should know exactly what I am talking about.)

Note: I had no doubts about Liam Neeson playing Hannibal. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the performances of Bradley Cooper and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. They were the best Face Man and B.A EVER, respectively!

I feel the pressure to say that this was a wonderful film where good triumphs over evil...good guys win, bad guys lose, and blah, blah, blah. However, I refuse to accept Ben Kingley as the bad guy in this or any other film. So, instead, I will say the following:

Go see this movie where 3 impetus princes stand in the way of a man working diligently to discover his personal legend! It’s worth watching in the theater. If not, take it home as your 2nd DVD pick.

MacGruber

I have to say Mac-NO-ber to MacGruber.

There were a few funny parts, but most of the acting (MacGruber’s acting) was over the top. The best character in the whole film was Kristen Wiig’s character. (She’s kind of cute; she looks a bit like Nicole Ari Parker.)

Robin Hood (2010)

Iron Man 2 was good, but Robin Hood was epic; it was worthy of being the only film released in a weekend, unlike its technological counterpart. (Someone in Hollywood made a mistake!)

It had everything! It had action, adventure, and love. It even had the perfect cast. (I really like seeing Mark Strong in movies. He has a powerful screen presence.)

I was captivated by this film. I was even moving in my seat. I know I am somewhat biased towards medieval period films. I just love to see warriors doing battle and talking about (seemingly forgotten) concepts like liberty, tyranny, justice, and equality. (Yes, it makes me reflect on the writings of Thomas Hobbs.)

I know I really don’t need to say it, but I will any way…go see this film in the theater. If you cannot make it, take it home as your 1st DVD pick.

Iron Man 2

I was not disappointed.

I was so worried that the film’s creators were going to rely too heavily on CGI, or make the film into a love story like the film Spider Man. I was so happy to find out that my fears were totally unfounded. Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark) brought his usual cavalier attitude, Mickey Rourke brought the opposition, and Scarlett Johansson brought the surprise.

Go see this movie in the theater. (You will not be disappointed.) If you cannot make it, take Iron Man 2 home as your 1st DVD pick. (If you purchased the original, you will definitely want to purchase Iron Man 2.)

Note: Don’t forget to stay in the theater until the film has ended, credit and all.

Death at a Funeral

This was a strange film. It was not really funny, the acting wasn’t the greatest, yet it ended as if it was a classic…as if the actors KNEW they had done their very best work. (If they did, it did NOT appear in the final product.)

That is not to say that the film did not have some finny bits. There were some funny parts! However, it was not funny enough to pay movie theater prices. You would be better off taking Death at a Funeral home as your 3rd DVD pick.

Usually I can tell, in advance, how a film is likely to end. This time, though, the director (Miguel Sapochnik) got me good!

The ending was so surprising, it broke my heart; I left the theater feeling as though my girlfriend had just dumped me.

I am not sure if this movie was supposed to be like a video game. But, it seemed as though there were multiple points where the film could have ended differently. Perhaps, I perceived it wrongly.

Either way, Repo Men is definitely worth watching in the theater. If you cannot make it to the theater, take it home as your 1st DVD pick.

If you are looking for a film that is creative…this is it!

If you are looking for a film where segments come together turbulently (like the movie Crash)…this is it!

If you are looking for a Wesley Snipes film…look elsewhere!

I was so very disappointed! The only reason I went to see this film was to watch Mr. Snipes! There was no contemplative Snipes. There was no Snipes display of certitude. There was no scene where snipes walked down the street in confidence. Surfice it to say, this film was light on Snipes.

If it were not for the funny ending, I would say leave this film on the shelf. In stead, I recommend that you take it home as your 3rd DVD pick.

Our Family Wedding

I missed the first 10 minutes of this film, so I cannot speak to its quality. Nevertheless, the second 10 minutes of the film were stupid. (The whole Charlie Murphy comedy routine has been overdone.)

The film does get better; however, as it proceeds. That is, Our Family Wedding went from stupid…to (kind of) funny…to serious…to cheery.

I thought the last 2 stages of the film were great. That is, Forest Whitaker’s character had to break through his self-centered life style and identify with his son’s pain; he had to find a way to give his son some quality advice that was suited to the sons life, not his own.

If you think you can tolerate the first thirty minutes of this film, go see it in the theater with your significant other. Otherwise, take it home as your 3rd DVD pick.

Note: It was nice seeing Forest Whitaker being funny.

This film was soooo silly. I got a good chuckle out of it. It was filled with good, old fashion, (not so) clean adult humor.

Tracy Morgan’s character was funny, Guillermo Díaz’s character was silly, Bruce Willis’s character was baffling, and Susie Essman’s character was tuff as nails!

If you need a good laugh, go see this film in the theater. Otherwise, take it home as your 2nd DVD pick.

It has been a long time since I’ve seen a good old fashioned (black and white) wolfman movie. Tonight, I had a chance to revist the past.

Benicio Del Toro wolfed-out in old school fashion…right before the camera. It was great!

Beware, this film it is not a modern version of the wolfman. It appeared to be a remake of an old school film, using modern technology.

It is worth seeing this film in the theater. If you cannot, take it home as your 2nd DVD pick.

Whoever was responsible for marketing this film should be fired! I am not sure if I even saw any advertising/trailers at all…it was a real miscarriage of justice.

John Travolta was in rare form in this film. That is to say, on a scale of 1 to 10, he was performing at level 10 the entire time. He did more trash talking, butt kicking, and gun shooting than I have ever seen him do in any other film. (If you thought he was over the top in the movie Face/Off, you need to watch From Paris with Love.)

When I walked out of the theater, I was not excited…I was actually happy!

Keep in mind, though, he does hurl a few racial epithets. If you can withstand a little bit of name calling, you will enjoy this film.

Go see this old school actor bring it home for the new generation. Otherwise, take it home as your 1st DVD pick.

Note: Watching this film was like watching Training Day...in Paris...to the 5th power!

I walked out of the theater thinking that this was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was nothing like The Road where there was a story to encapsulate my mind. This movie was just a bunch of stuff happening on screen.

Daybreakers was a really great film that never should have gone to the cinema.

That is, every aspect of the film was perfect. It had a great story; the cast was great; the action levels were above normal; however, the film was way too short.

“They” should have made this short film into a cable television series. I left the theater angry that I could not see more of the film.

If you want to spend your hard earned dollars watching this super short film in the theater, go right ahead. Otherwise, take this movie home as your 1st DVD pick.

Note: I only noticed 1 major flaw in the film. I think the director forgot about the concept of exponential growth. (Watch what happens toward the end of the film.)

The Road

Last year, Taken was the must see film for divorced dads. This year, The Road is the film for all dads.

Although the film was futuristic, it was reminiscent of a time when fathers played a consultative role in their children’s lives. That is to say, it was a man’s duty to prepare his children for life. (He had to transfer his life’s lessons to his child/children before he closed his eyes for the last time.)

The Road is also emblematic of the life journey we must all take. A large part of our journey includes finding other good people…people whom we can trust.

If you’re up to the task of watching this very deep film, go see it in the theater. If not, make this movie your 1st DVD pick.

If you have not gotten your fix of killing and blood (i.e., action) for the year, you need to check out Ninja Assassin. The story needed some help and the computer generated image (CGI) blood was a little over the top, but the fight scenes were spot on!

I do not (normally) watch martial arts films that take place in modern times. Something about the mix of guns and swords turns me off. (Why would you choose a sword when you could shoot your enemy with a gun?)

Go see this film in the theater if you are so inclined. Otherwise, make Ninja Assassin your 2nd DVD pick.

Synopsis: I should have known the film could not have been that simple. It turns out that the film is some sort of an allegory on the ills of capitalism or greed. (I am not sure.) Either way, I did not feel entertained after watching it.

I walked out 7/8th of the way through this film. I could not stand another moment watching Jamie Foxx play attorney Nick Rice. Jamie Foxx’s performance was atrocious. He did not play the role of a successful attorney convincingly. (Most good attorneys do more than just show up and try to look good.)

This role should have gone to someone a little more studious, like Don Cheadle.

Outside of Mr. Foxx’s poor performance, the movie was pretty good. Although, I would like to believe that the government watches people with “special skill sets.” (You will understand more when you see the movie.)

The trailers for Whiteout were horrible. They did not give me a sense of what this film was about at all. I thought this movie had a supernatural or alien force that went around killing people in the Arctic. It turns out to be an ordinary murder mystery film. A regular person goes around killing people and the authorities have to identify the culprit(s).

The movie’s plot wasn’t very great and it barely held my attention. I think I may have almost nodded off a couple of time during the film. It was so very NOT exciting!

Unless you (or your significant other) want to pretend as though you have watched a scary movie, I suggest you wait until Whiteout comes to regular television. In other words, leave it on the shelf.

I was totally unprepared for this film. I had no idea what the movie was going to be about, other than killing Nazis. And, I definitely had no idea the movie would end the way it did.

Before you go to the theater to see this movie, know that the word loquacious is a synonym for talkative. If you can’t see the movie in the theater, make it you 1st DVD pick. (Make it your 1st DVD pick, but watch it second. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a film to follow this one.)

I was not expecting this film to be as robust as it was. I thought I was going to see a simple comedy. Funny people turned out to be a drama with a splash of comedy.

The way this movie is filmed it made me believe I was really getting a glimpse into Mr. Sandler’s life. I had to remind myself that Adam Sandler is just playing a role.

The film was well put together and the serious acting didn’t seem forced. (Mr. Sandler is making a smooth transition into the world of dramatic acting.)

You should really enjoy this movie. It makes for the perfect Sunday matinee. If not, make this movie your 1st DVD pick.

A Perfect Getaway was a great film with a nice twist that took far too long to get to. There was absolutely no excitement for two thirds of this film. The delayed gratification required to get to the ending may be good for an HBO exclusive, but it was horrible for a movie one pays $7.50 to see. (A Perfect Getaway should never have gone to the movie theater.)

Although it was nice to see Steve Zahn playing a role other than buffoon, this movie was not worth seeing in the theater. So, wait for this movie to come on DVD and make it your 3rd DVD pick.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Marlon Wayans and Channing Tatum almost ruined this film. I went to the theater to see G.I. Joe for its non-stop action sequences. I didn’t go to the theater to see a comedy show. Marlin brought the patented Wayans clown element to the film and I did not expect/appreciate it. Channing Tatum, on the other hand, was a very poor actor.

Outside of those to casting errors, the movie was great! It is definitely worth seeing in the theater just not at the midnight showing. If you can’t make it to the theater, take the movie home as your 2nd DVD pick.

How did this film make it into production? I could barely tolerate watching this film. I could not figure out what was going. I could not figure out why any of the events were occurring. Was this movie supposed to shine a light on the effects of senseless violence?

If the film was about senseless violence, it still was not worth renting or buying, so I recommend that you Leave It On The Shelf!

Note: The person at the movie rental store said, "this film is better than the movie Crash." What a joke!

The Collector

For all you that follow my blog, you know I do not (normally) review scary movies. Yesterday, however, I decided to take a chance and watch The Collector. This film turned out to be a gory comedy. (Keep in mind that I was the only person in the theater laughing; yes, it seems to be a common occurrence.) I laughed because I couldn’t believe that movie producers still make dumb scary movie characters. The characters weren’t falling down while running, but they were making very poor life and death decisions.

The film itself was low budget/quality, yet it was entertaining. For those of you who may be thinking about viewing this film, please know that the killer is a regular person. The killer does not possess any super natural powers. (I really don’t like films with supernatural killers, ghosts, etc.)

If you need a good laugh with a touch of gore, go see this movie in the theater. Otherwise, make it your 2nd DVD pick.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D

I could not understand this movie at all. It was dry and void of any real action. I was bored, the children in the theater were bored, and I eat all my snacks before the film started.

I think the movie was ruined by the split plot. The movie had 2 distinct plots that intersected in the middle of the film, but they never quite came together. I kept wondering if this movie was made for people with difficulty sustaining attention.

I recommend that you do not go see Ice Age in the theater, nor view the DVD. You should leave this movie on the shelf!

The Ugly Truth

This movie was SOOOO funny! I can’t believe that someone has finally mustered up the strength to tell women the truth about us men. That is, no matter how sophisticated you’d like us to be, we are just simple beings battling our own carnal desires.

I don’t want to ruin the film for you, so I’ll stop here.

Note though, you should watch The Ugly Truth in the theater. Then, buy this DVD along with He's Just Not That Into You. Analyze both movies and try to live a better life.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

As long as you do not go into the theater expecting to see the greatest film of all time, you will not be disappointed by Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This film is just another segment of the Harry Potter odyssey, so stop hyperbolizing this film in your mind. (The film is not as exciting as the trailers make it out to be!)

I wish I could tell you that the film was awe inspiring; I wish I could tell you that I was completely swept away by the films imagery. But, I cannot. What I can tell you is that I nearly fell asleep a couple of times during the film.

Perhaps, I should have read the books. Then, I could tell you to watch this movie in the theater and make it your 1st DVD pick. In stead, I recommend that you stay at home and make it your 3rd DVD pick.

I Love You, Beth Cooper

This movie was not as bad as I was expecting. I was expecting I Love You Beth Cooper to be a wild 80’s teen film remake. Instead, it was much more robust. This film not only included fight scenes, (short)road trips, and adult situations, it incorporated alternative lifestyle choices and a dollop of graphic language.

There were a few moments where I Love You Beth Cooper seemed really funny, but it wasn’t worth watching this film in the movie theater. That being said, I encourage you to take this movie home as your 3rd DVD pick.

Note: This film is not for children.

My Sister's Keeper

I waited for the very last showing of My Sister’s Keeper before I bought my movie ticket. I thought that going to the theater at 10:30 PM would increase my chances of having the theater to myself. It turned out that 5 other guys had the same idea. It seems that neither of us wanted to let anyone see us watch this sappy movie.

The entire time I was in the theater, my heart ached for Kate Fitzgerald (the girl dying from cancer). Then, my stomach started to hurt. Toward the end, my eyes started to moisten. Although I was too manly to cry, I can see why others did.

This film makes it clear that starting a family is serious business. Not everything goes as expected. Without love and commitment, I am sure, things can go horribly wrong.

I refuse to issue a personal rating/recommendation for this film. Instead, I recommend that all schools show this movie as part of its sex education program. And, they should ask the students poignant questions like these:

1. What would have happened to the girl had she been born in a single parent home?

2. What would have happend to the girl had her parents not had the resources to take care of her?

Note: It may be a good idea to make it required viewing for premarital counseling.

Land of the Lost

I vaguely remember the original television show, so I cannot reasonably compare the two.

Judging the film on its own merits, it was a flop. So, do not go to the theater expecting to laugh from beginning to end. At best, I may have chuckled once or twice.

The film’s imagery and cast were OK, but the script needed a little work.

That being said, it is not worth paying the money to see Land of the Lost in the theater. If you are really interested, take it home as your 3rd DVD pick.

At best, Year One was kind of funny. It seemed like a remake of the Mel Brooks film, History of the World Part I.

The movie was too good to go strait to DVD, but not good enough to be shown at a first rate movie theater. Perhaps this film should have gone strait to the discount theaters.

Do not go to the cinema to see this movie. If you must view it, make it your 3rd DVD pick.

Public Enemies

Did this movie try to re-write history? I thought John Dillinger died in a hail of bullets, not three bullets. This was a really good movie, but I am not sure it was historically accurate.

Nevertheless, Johnny Depp did an excellent job portraying John Dillinger. He was tuff when he needed to be tuff and gaudy when the scene called for it; however, I will not recommend that you go see this movie in the theater. All of the close-ups may hurt your eyes. (I left the theater feeling as though I had been gazing at a computer screen all day.) In stead, make Public Enemies your 1st DVD pick, so you can adjust your display.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

I really wanted Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to be better than the 1st Transformers film. It turns out that it was a lot better in terms of graphics, action, and comedic exchanges. However, I do not believe I was this film’s intended audience.

It was a little difficult watching CGI Robots fighting on screen for extended periods of time. I like it when CGI enhances a movie, but I am not sure it should be the movie’s focus.

If you are a parent that monitors what your child watches, you may want to steer clear of Transformers. This film is suited for smart mouth teenagers looking for snazzy comebacks. Believe me, you do not want your children patterning themselves after the two idiot robots in the film that indicated that reading was not cool.

If you are a member of Generation Y and want to reminisce on Transformers, go see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the theater. Otherwise, wait and make it your 2nd DVD pick.

Note: If John Turturro and Ramon Rodriguez were not in this film, it would have been a flop. They made the movie funny.

The Proposal

The Proposal is not your ordinary chick flick. It is a well balanced film that contains witty banter that both men and women will enjoy. That is, it does not focus too heavily on the antics of Margaret Tate (Sandra Bullock) or Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds); it is this balance that prevents the movie from becoming too sappy or too cynical.

For those of you who believe Sandra Bullock is a really sexy woman, here is your chance to see her partially nude. Be advised, she looks better with her clothes on.

Take your significant other to see this film in the theater. If not, make this movie your 1st DVD pick.

Note: Ms. Bullock does not play a convincing Devil Wears Prada type character, but she can dance very well.

Imagine That

Eddie Murphy did it again with another family film. Imagine That was both funny and moving. (There is nothing like seeing a loving parent interacting with his/her child.)

If you liked Doctor Doolittle, you will definitely love Imagine That. So, go see it in the theater today. If not, make it your 1st DVD pick and add it to your DVD collection.

Question(s): Was it me, or did Mr. Murphy (with his suite on) look the same way he did in Trading Places? And, isn't Yara Shahidi one of the cutest little girls in the world?

The Taking of Pelham 123

The Taking of Pelham 123 turned out to be a much better film than I had imagined. When I saw the trailer, I thought it was going to be a complete flop. I asked myself, “What kind of movie could Denzel Washington and John Travolta make?”

Before you go running to the cinema, keep in mind that this film is NOT a traditional Mr. Washington film. He is one of the main characters, but he does not perform in the manner in which we have come to expect. His character is somewhat subdued in this movie.

The real star was John Travolta. Mr. Travolta’s character was intense! I stopped seeing Travolta altogether and I could only see his character Ryder.

Another shocker was John Turturro. I never realized how good an actor he is when he is being dramatic. After seeing this film, I don’t believe I want to see him as a buffoon any longer.

That being said, do not go see The Taking of Pelham 123 in the theater. Do, however, make it your 3rd DVD pick.

Note: It may be a good idea to watch the original film before you see this one.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian possessed no entertainment value for me whatsoever. The only thing I took from this film was that Amy Adams, under the right lighting, is a really good looking woman.

I am not sure if that alone was worth the fare. Was it? The children in the theater seemed to like this film. So, I suggest that you take your children under 8 years old to see this movie in the theater. If not, make it your 2nd DVD pick. As for watching the movie yourself, leave this movie on the shelf.

Note: There was a little adult humor, but I think it went over the children’s head.
